brand new

I've been out of commission for a while, but I've returned.. sadly without any new paintings.. I will start painting again soon enough, gotta get the gears going again. Stay tuned!
School's started again, I'm super excited for all my classes, should be a lovely semester :)

In the mean time, I'm part of a group exhibition!
Here's the e-invite! (? not sure if that's really what it's called..invite, I suppose)
You should come!

-Ella,

Führer

Has nothing to do with Nazism. More so to do with his 'iconic mustache' and the role that it played/still plays in society.
I read an article in Vanity Fair about it (you should read it too) and it inspired me to do this painting. It's heavy, I know.. but isn't that part of what art's suppose to be? It's suppose to give you some sort of reaction, some sort of feeling and emotion. It's suppose to make you think, at least for the most part. I'll leave it at that for now..

If you don't know what Führer means, read a book. (or Wikipedia it, at least)

ps. I highly recommend you click on the image to see the details.

phobias

This was a project for my Memories & Desires class, the project had to incorporate some sort of fear. I decided to go with societies fears and thought of doing phobias. I remembered looking into them a while ago online, and was blown away to see the amount of absurd phobias there are in the world (no offense if you have any of these.. or any crazy phobia for that matter) But seriously, look it up one day.. you'll be surprised.

I've done these little painting in wax, like all the other paintings I've been working with lately. I'll probably end up sticking to this medium for a while, get used to it, 'master it, and what not. I've embedded/incorporated real things into the wax, like my hair. It was fun, I think I'll do more of them!
